Onze studenten ontwikkelen ICT-skills als ICT-beheerder of Security specialist. Het contact met de opdrachtgever biedt studenten de kans om hun communicatieve vaardigheden te ontwikkelen. Aan het einde van het project is er een waardevol eindproduct gerealiseerd. Onze studenten werken projectmatig volgens de Scrum-methodiek in teams van 3 à 4 personen. Ze worden beoordeeld op het voltooien van het project en het eindproduct.

<h1>What is the Graduation (Capstone) Project?</h1>
The Capstone project is the culmination of a Computational Social Science student's three-year BSc program. Students will work in small teams of 4 or 5 to address real-world societal challenges presented by external partners. Students will develop innovative digital, data-driven interventions for social and sustainable change, integrating social science theory, data-science, and policy analysis.

In this final project of the new Master's program Applied Data Science at Utrecht University, students work in a team on a data project. The students have knowledge of programming in Python and R. All students follow a core course in data wrangling and analysis techniques. They then select from a variety of elective courses in applying data science for Media Studies, Geosciences, Epidemiology and/or Social and Behavioural Sciences.

Let talented Artificial Intelligence students from the University of Amsterdam solve your AI challenges (Apr-Jun). This 'Graduation Project' is the last phase of the Bachelor AI and Information Science. The assigned student(s) will work three months on a predefined problem that is relevant for your company, which has a clear research question for the field of AI. It's an individual assignment and they will work on average 200 hours (per person) on this challenge.

During this 8-week challenge International Bachelor Communication and Media students will come up with compelling digital content campaign that has the potential to spread organically and will prototype the campaign content for your organization.
You will get 4-6 teams that will act as the creative teams within a digital agency. The course focuses on audience engagement, storytelling, and media planning (focusing on unpaid media and organic reach). To ensure the designed content resonates with your audiences and inspires active involvement, the students will engage with (small scale, qualitative) audience research, consumer insight development and design thinking-based process of campaign ideas development.
👉 Next to getting a content strategy and the content from the teams, this is an excellent opportunity to spot talent, and hire the students as interns. They will do an internship later on in the program (starting April 2025).

Digital Content Challenge (B2C) '25

<h1>💡 Context</h1>
Een opdracht voor afstuderen bij HBO-ICT Software Engineering (SE) moet voldoen aan verschillende competenties op eindniveau, zoals adviseren, analyseren, ontwerpen, realiseren, en manage &amp; control. Daarnaast zijn er andere voorwaarden waaraan de opdracht moet voldoen, zoals het zelfstandig uitvoeren van de opdracht door de student, het opleveren van een relevant softwaresysteem, de opdracht moet complex genoeg zijn en een relevante onderzoekscomponent bevatten.&nbsp;
 
Het stage- of afstudeerbedrijf moet ondersteuning bieden op het juiste niveau (het liefste HBO-denkniveau) en de opdracht inclusief onderzoek kan in ongeveer 90 werkdagen worden uitgevoerd. Het is belangrijk dat de opdracht de onderzoekende houding van de student ondersteunt. Een software-ingenieur (HBO) moet niet verward worden met een softwareontwikkelaar (MBO).

Tijdens dit project ontwikkelen HBO ICT-studenten van de leerroute Business IT &amp; Management in teamverband een IT oplossing voor een ‘echt probleem’. De volledige levenscyclus van het product wordt hierbij doorlopen: van eisen, ontwerp tot implementatie. Tijdens de ontwikkeling maken de studenten gebruik van een agile/incrementele ontwikkelmethode.&nbsp;Er wordt in beginsel ontwikkeld met ‘open source’ software.

 <li>Voor een grote internationale wellness producten aanbieder hebben studenten nagedacht over&nbsp;een manier om ideeën of concrete vragen centraal te verzamelen en ze door slimme vraagstelling te categoriseren in bijvoorbeeld de zogenaamde ‘Eisenhower matrix’</li>
 <li>Hoe kan door middel van ICT de betrokkenheid van scholieren met de kinderboeken-week verhoogd worden? Hoe lok je (meer) kinderen naar de kinderboeken-week bij de bibliotheek? Bijvoorbeeld door vastleggen of delen van de reis. Hoe maak je de reis nog leuker?</li>
 <li>De circulaire stad: Hoe kan je met een ICT oplossing de hoeveelheid afval in containers voorspellen? Hoe kan je met een ICT oplossing andere afval data en afvalstromen verzamelen en in kaart brengen?</li>
 <li>Voor een bibliotheek: In de ‘good read challenge’ worden kinderen uitgedaagd om boeken te lezen. Welke ICT-tools zouden helpen bij de ‘good read challenge’?&nbsp;Hoe kunnen ouders/leerkrachten bijdragen?</li>
 <li>Studenten hebben voor een gordijnenwinkel een Curtain Selection tool ontwikkeld waarin potentiële klanten kunnen ontdekken welk type gordijn het best past bij hun raam-situatie</li>
 <li>Voor een biologisch varkensvlees producent waarbij meerdere biologische boeren zijn aangesloten is een systeem ontwikkeld waarbij er managementinformatie wordt verkregen uit de ‘voer-inname’ waardoor sturing op de component ‘voer’ mogelijk is geworden.</li>
 <li>En bijvoorbeeld voor een bank: ‘Oplichters komen vaak makkelijk weg nadat ze mensen via apps als WhatsApp, nepsites, phishing mails en de tikkie app geld afhandig maken, terwijl slachtoffers vaak niet kunnen rekenen op een schadevergoeding van hun bank. Onze maatschappij verwacht wel dat banken nadenken over maatregelen om klanten beter te beschermen. ‘ Studenten hebben meegedacht over oplossingen hiertoe</li>

Make IT Work biedt meerdere opleidingsrichtingen binnen de IT aan, waaronder Cyber Security, Business Analytics en Software Engineering.
 
Binnen de richting Software Engineering worden kandidaten tot een brede, junior full-stack software engineer opgeleid. Daarbij komen diverse onderwerpen aan bod, zoals, Object-Geörienteerd&nbsp;
Programmeren in Java, Algoritmes en Datastructuren, Database ontwerp en gebruik, MVC, UML, Software Maintenance, Design Patterns, testen, Agile / Scrum, Source-code beheer met git, Frontend technieken (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) en Backend technieken (SpringBoot).
 
Als eindopdracht werken de kandidaten in teamverband in 3 sprints van 2 weken aan een grotere Web Applicatie, waarbij alle opgedane kennis tot uiting komt.

VB: het gaat om regels zoals ‘bij een bestelling boven 50 euro hoef je geen verzendkosten te betalen’, ‘een vaste klant krijgt standaard 5% korting’. Kortom, er moet in de code meer gebeuren dan alleen maar gegevens verwerken.
 
3. Er moet data bestaan die in een (sql) database wordt opgeslagen
Als het bijvoorbeeld om een webshop gaat, dan zou moeten er gegevens beschikbaar zijn over producten, prijzen, klanten e.d. Anders gezegd: de website moet gegevens verwerken en niet alleen maar statische informatie bieden.
 
4. De ondernemer zal de sprint reviews doen met de studenten, en dient daarvoor beschikbaar te zijn (de sprint reviews zijn vooral op vrijdagen).
 
5. De ondernemer moet bij voorkeur in staat zijn voor deze reviews naar Amsterdam te komen.

CRE-LAB versnelt de regionale transitie naar een circulaire economie door MKB, onderwijsinstellingen en overheden te verbinden, innovatie te stimuleren en vakmensen op te leiden. Via praktijkgerichte projecten, challenges en kennisuitwisseling brengt het studenten, ondernemers en docenten samen. Het doel is om de innovatiekracht van de regio te versterken en de de bekendheid van CRE-LAB als katalysator voor circulaire economische ontwikkeling te vergroten.

CRE-Lab richt zich op circulaire en duurzame challenges voor iedere opleidingsrichting binnen het ROC van Amsterdam-Flevoland. Ook vraagstukken op het gebied van sociale duurzaamheid of vanuit de SDG's passen hier bij. Onze standplaats is Lelystad, maar we richten ons ook op Almere en Amsterdam.

Health and Wellbeing at Work Challenge 2025-2026

During the course “Ontwerpen van interactieve systemen” (Interactive systems design), student teams will create an interactive prototype in two stages, finishing with an interactive hi-fi prototype. They will apply a selection of the human centred design methods that they study in the theoretical part of the course. Project work is supervised by Utrecht University staff, but there are regular meetings with the client organisations (see below). Each design challenge will be tackled by around 6 teams of around 6 students. The prototypes can be used as a starting-point of the actual development phase of the product, service or app.

Our students, with their background in IT, already have an understanding of what is possible. Using their analytical capability and working under guidance of experienced analysts and designers they can now do the research that is needed to come up with a solution that is of real value to you and your customers.

Let a team of life sciences master students conduct research on a contemporary problem at the interface between life sciences and society. The students will deliver an advisory report based on their findings with concrete recommendations.

Life Sciences & Society Challenge 2024

Students will work on complex, strategic B2C issues submitted by real clients for a duration of 20 weeks. Often submitted issues are Marketing oriented.
 
In the first nine weeks, project teams make use of the Design Thinking model which the target group is thoroughly being researched through field- and desk research. That’s why open access to the target group is crucial. Based on their research results, students come up with several concepts which they pitch to the client. After that students will, in consultation with the client, produce (parts of) the concept.
 
At the end of the module the client will receive a strategic answer to the issue/assignment, which means a detailed concept of which one or more parts are actually produced.

During this 5th edition of the Communication Challenge, two teams of master Media &amp; Business students will partner with you to deliver research-driven and practically relevant recommendations on how to manage one of your communication challenges.

Het Project Data &amp; AI is onderdeel van de minorData &amp; AI. Aan het begin van de minor kunnen de studenten zelf kiezen uit het aanbod van projecten, die allemaal daadwerkelijke bedrijven als klant hebben. Elk van deze bedrijven levert een dataset, die de studenten gebruiken om een AI model te bouwen en een applicatie om dat model te demonsteren, wat dient als oplossing voor de hulpvraag van het bedrijf. De studenten zullen gaan kennismaken met de opdrachtgever en de opdracht verder afbakenen. Tijdens het project is overleg met de studenten gewenst over de voortgang en om vragen te kunnen beantwoorden. Het project en de minor wordt afgerond met een presentatie waarin de studenten hun applicatie met AI model demonsteren.
 
De minor loopt van 1 februari – 3 juli 2026. In deze periode is beschikbaarheid van de opdrachtgever nodig, ongeveer 0.5-1 uur per week. Alle projecten worden geacht een dataset beschikbaar te hebben, van minimaal een paar duizend foto’s, videos, data-entries (rijen in een tabel), audiofiles, of tekstbestanden. De dataset moet inzichtelijk/beschikbaar zijn voor de docent voorafgaand aan acceptie van de samenwerking. Ook wordt het bedrijf geacht een hulpvraag te hebben over deze dataset, bv. het verkrijgen van extra inzichten in patronen van sales data, of voorspellen wanneer het gaat regenen op basis van historische data, of het detecteren van agressief gedrag op camera beelden, of ... Er wordt een applicatie gebouwd die op basis van deze data conclusies kan trekken of aanbevelingen kan doen door middel van AI. De minor wordt gegeven in het Engels, dus dient de opdrachtomschrijving &amp; communicatie ook in het Engels te zijn. Het is ook mogelijk Nederlandstalige studenten toegewezen te krijgen.

Utrecht University's Department of Information and Computing Sciences has offered the Digital Transformation &amp; Architecture (DTA) course for over a decade. This comprehensive program is designed to foster a deep understanding of digital transformation and its intricate connection to enterprise architecture. Within the course curriculum, students are tasked with a practical assignment involving an organization: to assess an organization and to design a digital strategy.
 
<h3>Assignment</h3>
Within the course curriculum, students are tasked with a practical assignment involving an organization. The assignment entails crafting a portfolio of business activities utilizing an Operational Model Canvas. Subsequently, a detailed analysis will be conducted, delving into the dynamics and differentiation of these business activities, employing the concept of Multi Modality. Drawing insights from this analysis, students are then challenged to articulate a segment of the Enterprise Architecture and put forth a viable digital transformation strategy. The assignment will be performed by a team of 3 or 4 master of business informatics students.
Whether or not your company is presently engaged in a Digital Transformation project, the students have the flexibility to adapt their efforts accordingly. In the event of an ongoing project, they can align their work with the existing initiative. Alternatively, if there's no existing transformation project, students are equipped to propose a potential transformation path tailored to your company's needs.
 
<h3>Effort</h3>
A brief allocation of your time is needed to support our students in completing their assignments. Specifically, we seek your participation in 2 or 3 interviews with the master students. During these sessions, we would appreciate your insights and information that could enhance their assignment. This may include sharing materials such as annual reports, IT strategy documents, enterprise architecture documents, business process descriptions, or relevant sections of your corporate website. The students will take notes during the interviews for internal verification purposes. Additionally, there may be a need for email correspondence to address specific questions or obtain additional details. Your collaboration will significantly contribute to the success of our students' learning experience.
 
<h3>End report</h3>
The students will generate a comprehensive report encompassing a business activity portfolio outlined in the Operating Model Canvas, a detailed Multi Modality analysis, a segment description of the Enterprise Architecture, and a recommended Digital Transformation Strategy. This report will be made accessible to you for your review. It will undergo evaluation by the course instructor, Nico Brand, as well as co-instructors from the University of Utrecht. Additionally, fellow students in the course will engage in a peer review process to provide constructive feedback. It's important to note that the report will not be published or made publicly available beyond the specified academic audience.

Samenlevingen staan voor meerdere en onderling samenhangende maatschappelijke uitdagingen, zoals klimaatverandering en duurzaamheid, ongelijkheid in gezondheid en welzijn, het combineren van werk en zorg, en het versterken van sociale cohesie en diversiteit. Om deze vraagstukken aan te pakken zijn effectieve benaderingen nodig.
 
In de cursus Social Change Approaches leren masterstudenten van het programma Social Challenges, Interventions and Policies hoe zij dergelijke benaderingen kunnen ontwerpen, evalueren, aanpassen en implementeren, in nauwe samenwerking met maatschappelijke partners.
 
Een studententeam levert een eindproduct dat aansluit bij de behoeften van uw organisatie. Dit kan verschillende vormen aannemen, bijvoorbeeld een interventiebeschrijving, een evaluatierapport, een implementatieplan, een workshop, webinar of presentatie. Ook creatievere producten, zoals een theaterstuk of fototentoonstelling, zijn mogelijk. Het werk wordt academisch begeleid door de Universiteit Utrecht; u geeft feedback op de bruikbaarheid van het product en op de samenwerking.

Societies today face multiple and interconnected challenges, such as climate change and sustainability, inequalities in health and well-being, balancing work and care, and strengthening social cohesion and diversity. Effective approaches are needed to address these issues.
 
In the course Social Change Approaches, master students in Social Challenges, Interventions and Policies are trained to design, evaluate, adapt, and plan the implementation of approaches to these challenges, in close collaboration with stakeholders.
 
A student team will deliver an end product tailored to your needs. This may take various forms—for example, an intervention description, an evaluation report, an implementation plan, or a workshop, webinar, or presentation. More creative products, such as a theater play or photo exhibition, are also possible. The work will be academically supervised by Utrecht University, while you provide feedback on the usefulness of the product and your experience of the collaboration.

Tijdens het semester gaat een studententeam een optimalisatie traject uitvoeren voor een bedrijfsproces. Waarna (een deel van) het advies in de praktijk wordt gerealiseerd/geïmplementeerd,&nbsp;vb&nbsp;in de vorm van een dashboard.
 
In beginsel zijn zowel formeel vastgelegde als informeel uitgevoerde processen geschikt als opdracht, in het ene geval zullen de studenten vooral naar verbeteringen kijken terwijl in het andere geval de focus zal liggen op én het vastleggen, én volgens de juiste methoden/technieken verbeteren van deze processen.&nbsp;Hetgeen resulteert in een advies, gericht op verbeteringen in de procesgang.
De procesverbetering en optimalisatie wordt vanuit de LEAN&nbsp; methode vormgegeven. De studenten maken bij de uitvoering van de opdracht weliswaar gebruik van de LEAN Managementmethode hetgeen niet betekent dat de opdrachtgever met LEAN als methodiek behoeft te werken.
Deze procesoptimalisatie-opdracht wordt afgerond met het in de praktijk realiseren/implementeren van (een deel van) het advies,&nbsp;vb&nbsp;in de vorm van een dashboard.
 
Het is van belang dat het project afgebakend is en dat er mensen beschikbaar zijn die informatie kunnen geven over de processen, werkwijzen, controles etc.
Het resultaat van de opdracht is een adviesrapport en een concreet product (vb. dashboard, prototype of een eerste MVP).

Dit alles zonder de normen en waarden te verwaarlozen én met behoud van het familiegevoel en de informele sfeer.</li>
 <li>Een IT-beheerder stelde de studenten de volgende vraag: Door het grote aantal van en de grote verscheidenheid in licenties en applicaties is het beheer een niet-eenvoudige zaak. Licentiebeheer moet alle zeilen bijzetten om de juiste stappen te zetten, temeer omdat niet iedereen het proces volgt. Moet nu dit proces aangepast worden, de mensen opgevoed worden of moet er iets anders gebeuren?</li>
 <li>BEAZ Solutions B.V. heeft de vraag om een proces/systeem op te zetten waarmee het voorraad beheer en de inkoop ondersteund worden. Een dashboard om de voorraad, bestellingen en de inkoop te monitoren is wenselijk.</li>
 <li>One Loan: Welke processen kunnen worden geoptimaliseerd en geautomatiseerd? Welk proces heeft prioriteit boven een ander en waarom?</li>

Students from the UvA Bachelor in Computational Social Science will investigate effective ways to create positive impact in areas such as climate change, surveillance, health, mobility, and beyond. Working alongside a range of public and private partners, they will tackle complex “wicked problems”. As part of the challenge, the students will design and deliver a website aimed at inspiring and supporting behavioral change among its visitors.
 
To achieve this, they will combine desk research, focus groups, and experiments with prototyping and web design. Throughout the process, they will explore how different stakeholders perceive pressing societal issues, and identify opportunities for innovative digital solutions. Previous projects have focused on topics such as promoting <a href="https://djonaitis.github.io/cssci-sem2-climatecleaners/index.html" target="_blank">Nature-based Solutions</a> or other relevant social or environmental issues.
