Description

Turn your data into results with a dedicated AI and/or Machine Learning project. We’re inviting you to propose real-world, data-driven challenges for our master’s students. Ideal projects provide a supervised-learning dataset and a clear business question related to either a regression (predict a numeric outcome) or classification (predict a category) task. Approaches may include modern machine learning and deep neural networks.

✅ Key features of the challenge

  • Time a student spends on the project: 650 hours
  • Programme: Master Data Science and Society
  • Period: September - January
  • Supervision: Students are supervised by acedemic staff from the university
  • Deliverables: Presentation and report
  • Company time investment: 16-20 hours
  • Matching fee:
    • For-profit organizations: €850,- (ex tax, charged by Master Challenge (NOT the university)).
    • Non-profit organisations / NGO's / Overheidsorganisaties / Onderwijsinstellingen: free of charge

📑 Challenge topics

While topics from any domain are welcome, datasets related to Business or Health are preferred.

Here are a few sample examples for your reference:

  • Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) Prediction
  • Time series forecasting of thermoelectric energy generation for powering agricultural IoT sensors
  • Predicting drug satisfaction among patients
  • Electricity Price Forecasting
  • Hotel / Airbnb listing price prediction
  • Anomaly detection
  • Predicting Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) using EEG (Electroencephalogram) data
  • Customer churn prediction in an e-commerce retail business
  • Bankruptcy prediction for listed companies
  • Predicting financial capability based on emotional stability

 🏢 Company requirements

  • Any company (startup/scale-up/corporate/incubator/NGO) with at least two founders/employees working full time in the company.
  • In business for at least 6 months.

💰 Costs

To help facilitate this challenge we charge a matching fee of €850,- (ex tax).

❗️You will only be charged when matched to a team.

❗️Non-profit organisations / NGO's / Overheidsorganisaties / Onderwijsinstellingen: free of charge

👉 What does the challenge ask of you as a company?

  • A clean dataset (we need to receive a sample to be able to judge the suitability of the dataset for this challenge)
  • Organizations are expected to appoint a key contact person that invests between 16-20 hours (e.g., joining the (online) kick-off, (bi-)weekly meetings, final presentations, providing information, answering questions).

📨 How to apply

You can submit the challenge directly through the website. Provide a title that summarizes the challenge. Subsequently, briefly elaborate on your challenge. Click here for a template you can use, or use our Challenge Generator.

🗓 Planning

  • August 29: Deadline to submit a challenge (we might be ‘sold out’ before this date)
  • August 29: Teams hand in their top five of challenges including a brief motivation why they want to solve this challenge. The companies receive an overview of the teams that have chosen their challenge.
  • September 1-5: Matching phase
