Description

What is the Graduation (Capstone) Project?

The Capstone project is the culmination of a Computational Social Science student's three-year BSc program. Students will work in small teams of 4 or 5 to address real-world societal challenges presented by external partners. Students will develop innovative digital, data-driven interventions for social and sustainable change, integrating social science theory, data-science, and policy analysis.


Duration: February – June 2026


What Do We Ask From Our Partners?

Commitment:

a. Provide a real-world societal challenge that can be addressed through digital interventions (e.g., websites, apps, data analysis, social media campaigns).

b. Offer feedback and support throughout the project’s duration.

c. Participate in regular meetings with students and faculty (virtual or physical space).


Time Requirement:

Partners are expected to assist and mentor students for at least 1 hour per week from Feb-June. This could include briefing on the project, (bi-)weekly feedback sessions, and a final report and presentation of the digital intervention.


Project Requirements. 

The challenge should be...

a. Multidimensional – involving multiple stakeholders and complexity

b. An opportunity to develop an innovative digital solution

c. Related to the topics of climate change, health, mobility, or AI and inequality


What Do Partners Get?

The Important Dates:

  • Monday February 9th, between 13:00 and 16:00: Pitch your project to the student cohort, followed by drinks till 17:00. The following week you'll be asked to cast your preferences based on student applications
  • Wednesday April 15th, between 14:00 and 17:00: Prototype Party (mid-term event), a session to harvest feedback, to iterate and improve
  • Friday June 26: Project handover event and presentations! Each graduation team will be presenting their project to our CSSci partner network and wider academic community
