Brain and Cognition Challenge '24
Let talented Master Psychology students help you apply brain and cognition knowledge in a practically relevant and beneficial way (e.g. influencing/nudging customers).
Description
Whether you want to influence new customers, nudge a group of people or want to understand why people make specific choices, our students can help you out by applying relevant brain and cognition knowledge to reach your goal.
Based on data-collection in the field, as well as insights from scientific research, students will develop and test an idea (prototype) in order to give you new insights and recommendations.
✅ Key features of the challenge
- Students per team: 3-4 students
- Two rounds: October 28-November 22 AND November 25-December 19
- Course: Real World Case Studies in Brain and Cognition
- Program: Master Psychology: Brain & Cognition in Society
- No. of hours spent per team: 500 hours
- Deliverables: To-the-point report and a presentation. Extra deliverables: prototypes/beta-products and materials that make the findings accessible to a broad audience (blogs/vlogs, white papers, brochures, websites, opinion article(s), social media posts, etc).
- Student profile: They can set up (applied) experiments, perform sophisticated statistical analyses and report back in a very accessible way.
- Company time investment: Your time involvement is 8-12 hours in total (e.g., (bi-)weekly (short) meetings, interviews, final presentation, etc.).
- Matching fee (only when matched to one or more teams):
- For companies: €1500,- (ex tax)
- For non-profit/governmental organizations and NGO's: €750,- (ex tax)

- How can we optimize our advertisement, marketing and sales campaigns using psychological, cognitive and brain knowledge (Neurensics)?

- Should we minimize or maximize cognitive differences within teams to get better work output (BrainsFirst)?
- How to increase engagement and participation in skill development for young professionals during the early years of their careers?
- How to achieve structural, positive behavioral change of potential residents of new homes by offering them a sustainable, affordable alternative?

- Any company/organization from any industry can apply.
💰 Costs
- For companies: €1500,- (ex tax)
- For non-profit/governmental organizations and NGO's: €750,- (ex tax)
This fee is used to organize this challenge, to better guide the students, and to cover the costs needed to solve your challenge.

You can submit the challenge directly through the website. Provide a title that summarises the challenge. Subsequently, briefly elaborate on your challenge. - October 31: Deadline for submitting your challenge
- October 31 (or sooner): Receiving message if your challenges is approved by the lecturer
You can indicate whether you want to join round 1 (Oct 28-Nov 22) or round 2 (Nov 25-Dec 19).
Round 1
- Oct 28 (morning): Teams rank the challenges including a brief motivation why they want to solve this challenge. The companies receive an overview of the teams that have chosen their challenge.
- Oct 28 (afternoon): The companies rank the teams that want to solve their challenge.
- Oct 28 (afternoon): Our matching algorithm will create perfect matches. Matches are shared with the teams and companies.
- Oct 29: Kick-off meeting with the teams
- Nov 22: Final presentations in time slots of 20 minutes (after you are matched to a team, we will schedule the time slots).
Round 2
- Nov 25 (morning): Teams rank the challenges including a brief motivation why they want to solve this challenge. The companies receive an overview of the teams that have chosen their challenge.
- Nov 25 (afternoon): The companies rank the teams that want to solve their challenge.
- Nov 25 (afternoon): Our matching algorithm will create perfect matches. Matches are shared with the teams and companies.
- Nov 26: Kick-off meeting with the teams
- Dec 19: Final presentations in time slots of 20 minutes (after you are matched to a team, we will schedule the time slots).
