Let a team of life sciences master students conduct research on a contemporary problem at the interface between life sciences and society. The students will deliver an advisory report based on their findings with concrete recommendations.

✅ Key features of the challenge
- Students per team: 3 students.
- Course: Minor Life Sciences & Society (GSLS)
- No. of hours spent per team: ~350 hours (2 months full time spread out over 6 months).
- Level: Master (2nd year).
- Duration: Feb 5 – July 5, 2024.
- Programme: Students from various Life Sciences master programmes.
- Supervision: Student teams are supervised by a teacher from the minor for the set-up, process and writing of the project. For the supervision on the content we need someone from your company / institution.
- Deliverables: Research project and results + advisory report (with concrete recommendations based on the research results).
- Company time investment: ~40 hours in total.
📑 Challenge Examples
- The starting point of the project should be a contemporary problem at the interface between life sciences and society. In the past, for example, students have conducted research at the RIVM on a communication strategy for the national vaccination programme. Other students worked for the NWO on the effect of the corona pandemic on research grant applications.
🏢 Company/institution requirement
- Any company or institution with relevant project options on the interface between life sciences and society.
- Ability to provide supervision by domain experts to the students working on the challenge.

🗓 Planning
- Start of project: February 5th 2024.
- Starting meeting: February 15th in the morning.
- Bi-weekly or at least monthly attendance of the 1 hour meetings with the students.
- Being available via e-mail/telephone (approximately 0.5-1 hours per week).
- End of project: July 5th 2024.
- Assessing the drafts and the final report of students (3-6 hours).
- Attending the final symposium (half a day on July 5th 2024).
