The Practical Case Study is the last course of the Minor “Applied Econometrics: A Big Data Experience for All” and is operated by the Department of Econometrics and Data Science of the School of Business and Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In January 2025, our students will work in groups full-time on cases which are offered by our partners in business and academia.

- Students per team: 4 students, it is possible to have multiple groups working on the case (either on the same case or on several versions)

📑 Challenge Examples
The case is typically based on a specific task for which (large) data sets need to be analysed and hypotheses need to be empirically investigated. The data set should be easily accessible to the students such that that they can start with the data analysis and econometric modelling immediately at the start of January 2025. Examples of previous editions:
- Forecasting individual customers' demand
- Cross-validation in macro-economic forecasting
- Drivers and policy reactions of current inflation
- Impact of transition risk into value creation chain and final customer financial situation
- Studying variation in grade retention at the municipal level
- Evaluating the effects of infrastructural elements on safety
- Climate change and economic policy
